Whatever script you tried to run, it changed your arcNumber.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[') 0.000000] Machine: Seagate FreeAgent DockStar

It should say GoFlex home. Dockstar doesn't have a sata port so kernel won't even try to initilize it. Maybe your sata drive is intact.

Find out what U-Boot you have: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5623#p31766
Also install uboot-env package, run fw_printenv and post the output here.
We'll go from there.

Run these:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'fw_setenv ethaddr '00:AA:BB:CC:DD:EE'
fw_setenv arcNumber 3338')

00:AA:BB:CC:DD:EE is your mac address from the bottom of the device.
arcNumber 3338 corresponds to goflex home

Ran both and they've affected the appropriate changes in fw_printenv, dmesg however still shows it as a different device and isnow accompanied by
[ 37.588752] systemd[1]: Starting Permit User Sessions...
[16618.552842] uncorrectable error :
.....
[16719.098644] uncorrectable error :

There are a lot in between those two, I'll spare you them.

I tracked down what I was doing that triggered everything:

I was following this: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,4638,4645,quote=1
That I found located on this: http://blog.philippklaus.de/2011/04/ins ... flex-home/

You've probably booted off of the sata drive. Those maybe the errors due to what you've changed. check fdisk -l.

Rebooted and we have definite improvement. It registers itself on the network as ALARM and has its old assigned IP, furthermore it detects the sata drive:

And you've likely booted from the sata because U-Boot is setup to try to boot from sata first. run " mount | grep sda" and "mount | grep sdb"
