Can the eth0 profile in the /etc/netctl directory be replaced with another profile entirely?

In other words, can an ethernet-static based profile in /etc/netctl stand alone? Or is the eth0 profile required to be present regardless of the profile you want to use?
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
