With udev-automount installed, I don't think I've had an issue.

the only obvious variable I have not accounted for yet:

Do you boot from usb2 or sata port?

Aside from that it doesnt make much sense that ports work fine at stock, clean install of alarm and udev-automount works for you and not me......?

Hmm, I boot from SATA, but again, I've no issues. I'd like to add that just because it's not working as you expect does not mean it is broken. The handling is obviously different.

My apologies if it seemed like an accusation, it was not. I meant only to imply that what is expect is not happening, and in that sense something is broken, if it be ALARM, my installation procedure, faulty hardware or whatever....

I just want to isolate the issue and try to fix it where ever it may be.

Sorry if my earlier posts where in any way offensive.

I will try installing/booting from sata and see if that changes anything.

It could also be that the udev rules in the udev-automount package need a refresh or update. That is a package we provided on our own for purely convenience purposes, and so far it's worked but udev has also been on a rapid update cycle recently.

Sorry for reviving this old thread but my finger now is getting very itchy to click on that order button for this V4 from Amazon. I am currently using V2 (E02) with Alarm installed. Everything works beautifully except when I try to view some movies with my iPad 2 (using Buzzplayer app that supports Samba). It stutters on certain movies. Does anyone notice any difference in performance between V2 and V4? I understand there are more powerful boxes such as Buffalo Linkstation Pro (1.6Ghz) or QNAP 119PII (2Ghz) but I worry that I may not be able to get ALARM to work on these two. My impression is that they don't seem to be as popular in this ALARM community. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The v4 is lower spec so I don't see how it could be an improvement...! However, I can report that my v4 streams just fine over SMB and NFS. Have you ruled out other issues, such as Buzzplayer being faulty?

Thanks schn4rk. I have another "Linux box" at home, i.e. an old Compaq core duo laptop (running text only Ubuntu). After I copied the same MKV movie to this Compaq laptop, it doesn't stutter at all when viewed with my iPad Buzzplayer over SMB. That was why I concluded that the stuttering was caused by the slower processor of my Pogo V2. Again, the stuttering only occurs on certain MKV movies.

hi all. I'm new to this forum and to ALARM. I recently purchased a Series4 with hopes of setting up ALARM to use my Series4 as a NAS device. I currently have a 3TB USB3.0 external drive that I plan to use. I am considering getting a second 3TB drive with the hopes of having a RAID 1 setup (can't risk losing 3TB of data).

Is this possible with ALARM for the Series4? Do I need to do it during the setup/formatting of the drive or can I add it in later when I buy the second drive?

Thanks in advance for the help.
