Can't get fsck to run / set system clock at boot

Postby radengr » Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:17 am

I just got ArchLinux ARM installed on my PogoPlug v2 (Pink). It seems to be working quite well so far. I have a 200GB external usb drive hooked up and I need to run fsck on it. I can't seem to do it.

shutdown -rF now doesn't work as far as I can tell. fsck never runs. Also, if I run `tune2fs -l /dev/sda1` I get this

Mount count: 58
Maximum mount count: 22

Clearly that isn't working either. I can't even try to make it run based on time because my stupid clock resets each time I reboot. I'm not sure how to fix that as these things don't have a hwclock?

Has anyone had any luck setting the clock at boot?

Otherwise things are going well. I have comanchee set up with webcam and it is snapping pictures and hosting them nicely. I also was able to compile mochad so I can send x10 commands with my cm15a. I haven't tried lirc yet, but I have it installed. Very nice!

Is there a hardware clock in the V2 to be concerned about?

There isn't no hardware clock on the v2. Immediately after reboot my clock is set to 1969 so I have just been using the date command to fix it. Not a huge deal. Neither is the fsck not running I suppose, last night I just gave up and hooked it up to a desktop linux machine and fixed the disk errors I had.

I just figured this is something someone else has an elegant solution to these problems? I'm going to try to work out a nice way to set the system clock at boot. I know some people don't have extra linux computers running around to fix disk errors either. I think fixes that either of these issues would make nice "guides" for new users like me :) If I come up with something I'll certainly post it here.

I've never had fsck run against root. I end up shutting down and doing it on another dockstar.
I asked a question long ago about this and thought maybe it was because root was not in /etc/fstab, but
I did not get any replies.

I also think there is something going on with poweroff and/or reboot.
My dockstars run from a flash drive for root. I boot up and the file system is fine.
I only ever do reboot or poweroff and next thing I see I am getting
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ' EXT2-fs (sda1): warning: mounting fs with errors, running e2fsck is recommended')
Next time I get a chance I'll see if I can narrow it down to one or the other.

Is anyone else seeing this as well?
