Update of new kernel (3.0) fail

Postby sheevaplugger » Sun Sep 18, 2011 8:23 am

After about 2 years my archlinux-installation on my sheevaplug fail after an update.

Like the news post (http://archlinuxarm.org/article/20110722/updated-sheevaplug-guide) told me, i installed archlinux with the new installer new.

But after pacman -Syu and the installation of the new kernel 3.0 I can't boot my sheevaplug again.

After the update uname -r tells me that kernel 2.6.39.2 is still runing!?

Have I to do something manual?

In the past I had to copy uImage. Now?

But with the new installed archlinux (on a sd-card) I have no mount points in /mnt/ or /media/ of the sd-partitions!?

I found no entries to my problem in the forum :-( What's the problem on my sheeva?

Thanks for your hints.

Today I installed ALARM new. It runs with kernel 2.6.39.2. I can reboot and halt/start the sheeva. everythink is ok.

My first update with pacman installed a new version of pacman.

My second update downloaded 64,25 MB of packages including the new kernel 3.0.3-1.

During package check I got the following error message:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
linux-firmware: /lib/firmware/edgeport/boot.fw exists in filesystem
linux-firmware: /lib/firmware/...')

At my previous test I deleted all files in the folder /lib/firmware/; than the installation runs. But than I had the problem I described in my previous post.

Anyone with the same problem?

Bye
