The status of OpenSWAN?

Hi,
OpenSWAN package seems to be out of date. I may attempt to compile it from source, but I'd rather not break the package management.
Is there anybody out there who has an interest in updating this package? I'd also appreciate if you could point me towards key documentation for compiling and packaging code, just in case I find some time to work on this.
