U-Boot/UBIT on GoFlex: Net vs. Home differences

Postby davygravy » Wed Mar 28, 2012 4:27 pm

Does anyone out there have both devices? Or have experience/familiarity w/ the UBIT/U-Boot for these two devices?

Does your (ALARM's) setup use the same U-Boot/UBIT for both devices? Do the boards identify differently by the kernel?

I see that the GoFlex Home is already listed in the kernel's arch/arm/tools/mach-types table. I wonder if the actual _hardware_ is different (NOTE: as opposed to differences layout of traces on the PCB, chips, population of one SATA port instead of two, specs...). Certainly, boards can be layed out differently, headers populated or not with physical ports (or not), and the kernel/bootloader can see no differences.

I'm planning to submit u-boot for the GoFlex Net support to mainline, but before I do that I want to try to make sure that GoFlex Home is supported also. Ideally, the GF Net/Home series could be added to mainline, with minimal addition of code to the Seagate Dockstar that is already there.

Maybe someone in the ALARM community has a dedicated dev GF Home that they'd be willing to look at?

Do they have different arcNumbers ? I believe you would need to hunt down the author of UBIT
