Route only irc traffic through VPN

Postby necro » Sat May 05, 2012 7:13 am

I have been using Pogoplug for two months now and it's a fantastic device no doubt. I have been able to install most things by going through guides.
I am running transmission and znc on pogoplug.
Can only the znc traffic be routed via VPN ? I am planning to use kiss VPN, i think I need to install openvpn on pogoplug. Znc also doesn't have the proxy address settings.

Any pointers please for which pkgs to install

This is a V3 right? If so, you may need to be patient for the kernel update that has fully functional iptables.

If you have the VPN set up with a tap/tun device, just use iptables to set up routing between interfaces. This is just basic iptables stuff with guides all over the internet.

If you're just trying to access znc or any other local service with a VPN, the easiest way is just to have your VPN server put you right onto your LAN instead of a sandboxed subnet. No extra routing required.

Mine is the first case. If I install kiss VPN , my transmission client traffic will also be routed via VPN. I want transmission traffic to go directly to Internet. Whereas , I want only znc traffic to go via Vpn and then to the respective irc servers.

Then most likely your VPN is resetting your default gateway. Have it not do that, then just set up individual routes with iptables.

Or, if all you are doing is bouncing irc, ssh tunnel. Way easier.

Yes ssh would be easier but kiss VPN do not have ssh access. Free shells do not allow tunneling.

If I somehow get tunneling working , then how can I route only my znc traffic via the ssh tunnel ?

I have setup google app engine web proxy , can this be used to route znc's irc traffic ?

Have a look on this, i assume your ZNC server is the same server as openvpn server.
The technique is the same, just the iptables rule may be different.
