PPv4: How to fix "warning: maximal mount count reached"

Postby winestock » Sat Nov 17, 2012 6:03 pm

I have run "shutdown -F" but I don't see it ruuning fsck in the dmesg log and the "EXT3-fs (sda1): warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended" still remains. What does this message mean and how do I get rid of it?

You should be OK unless you are having problems with the device. You can change the frequency by tune2fs -c <frequency> /dev/sda1.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'Y')ou should be OK unless you are having problems with the device. You can change the frequency by tune2fs -c <frequency> /dev/sda1.

AFAIK that won't work. I think you need uInitrd to fsck to be run at boot. I do have that on one of my devices but it still doesn't work (i haven't really looked into the issue as it isn't that big of a deal) that is a warning and not an error, and if you are using ext3 and shutdown properly you shouldn't have any problems regardless of how many times the filesystem was mounted.

You can boot off a USB stick, mount your complaining drive, and run e2fsck on it, That will reset the counter.
