FTDI USB device problem

Postby cyrus06 » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:54 am

Hi guys,

i have some problems with an ftdi usb device.
when i plug in the device i won't come up as ttyUSB.

i get with "dmesg | grep ftdi" no output. I can see the device is connected when i type "lsusb" and i can also see the VID and PID.

the output with "dmesg | grep usb" confuses me a little bit. It shows just "usb 1-1.3: new full speed USB device number 4 using orion-ehci" and not the normal output that an ftdi device is connected.

my archlinux-version is:
Linux GoFlexNet 3.1.10-13-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Mon Aug 20 15:46:18 UTC 2012 armv5tel GNU/Linux

Are you sure it's actually a FTDI device? Also, 'dmesg | tail' would probably have been better than grepping for ftdi (which may or may not be capitalized) Please respond with the dmesg stuff that's relevant to plugging the device in as well as what lsusb spits out.

thansk for the quick response.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('xenoxaos', 'A')re you sure it's actually a FTDI device?

Yes I'm shure that it is a FTDI device. It's a "LinkUSB" from iButtonLink.

Her is the output of "lsusb"

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0409:005a NEC Corp. HighSpeed Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0781:5567 SanDisk Corp. Cruzer Blade
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0403:6001 Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC

and the output of "dmesg | tail" -> The device was pluged out and in again!

[ 7830.170889] usb 1-1.3: USB disconnect, device number 4
[ 7832.454659] usb 1-1.4: new full speed USB device number 5 using orion-ehci

I've done this several times with no success! But let me try this again when I'm in front of the device.
