Installed ALARM on another flash drive and it did not boot

Postby jerry0000 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:23 am

I stalled ALARM on a Pogoplug E02 on a USB drive. However later I found the 1GB flash drive is a bit too small, and wan to upgrade to a 2GB flash drive. I followed the "start from scratch" instruction exactly (as below). Everything completed nicely, however it would not boot into ALARM. (Switch back to the old 1GB works.). I then tried a USB external hard drive, and created a rootfs paritition with 5GB, and also did not boot. Not sure what was wrong. I used netconsole, and saw the USB External hard drive actually went all the way to start kernel step (will post netconsole details soon), however the 2gb flash drive had disk error (will post details soon).

Your flash drive won't work. Try a different one. U-Boot times out. It's known that some flash drives don't work

After post this here, I read some more on the forum, and seems to learn that. Thanks!

I am also having trouble with my USB external hard drive. Not sure what the problem there. However I will post netconsole error when I get a chance.

============
Edit to add:
Yes, I tried another flash drive -- same brand as the initial install one, and it worked the first time. Thanks again. Now I have to figure out the external hard drive issue.

Edit 2 to add:
Looks like the problem with the Maxtor external HDD is the same as the 2gb flash drive. Used another external hdd, and it worked the first time. So not only some flash drive do not work, some external usb hdd do not work either.
