after shutdown -h now, can't ssh

Postby tedm » Sat Jan 05, 2013 6:08 am

but it's still running, nmap shows port 22 is open, initial ssh shows mismatched rsa keys, but clearing it allows me to ssh (and ping the device), but original password isn't taken for root, or user accounts, but services are running.

odd. I realize it's ext2 (the flash drive), so after the shutdown -h now, I waited before unpowering it.

will the reset do anything? or is a custom serial cable needed to reset it? thanks.

addl. info. device is original dockstar goflex, usb flash is 8gb, kernal is 3.10. front lights blink, but change colors, but never go solid, just continue blinking fast, network is up, services are running, can be pinged from all network devices, but ssh and user passwords are not accepted.

There is a reset hole for a paper-clip, but not sure what reset level that will take it to. I've read about taking the flash out of the dockstar and making it an ext3 rootfs volume, but am still concerned if specific commands like shutdown or other standard commands may affect the goflex original, and what the effect of the reset does.

fixed!

I pressed the reset button with a paperclip while powering on, cleared remote .ssh/known_hosts, re-ssh'd, and it took the original root pw I setup. It's fine now, I guess a gentler signal than shutdown should be used for soft re-start without need for paper clip?

Systemd, please use poweroff instead of halt/shutdown.

Thanks, I'm guessing that the shutdown -h now with this latest 3.10 systemd version created some kind of /etc/nologin or something until I hard reset with paperclip. I thought root was exempt from that though. Is there a good tutorial on the systemd things to watch out for with this latest version? Thanks, will try to remember poweroff, or better yet, just leave running.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', 'S')ystemd, please use poweroff instead of halt/shutdown.
