$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('moonman', 'M')y GF Home does 70 MB/s write and 100.39 MB/read with dd.

Amazing! Is this speed tested on the original Seagate 3.5" disk mounted on the eSata port? Mine is 2.5" 2TB WD Passport mounted on the USB port, so could this explain the speed difference?

Back to my Pogoplug V2, I did the Samba copy test. I rebooted the V2 and copied a 1GB file from my laptop to V2 SMB shared folder. The first attempt (after reboot) always gives pathetic result of around 8MB/s but subsequent attempts using the same file would give 27MB/s. :?

Yes, that's over the sata port. Usb 2.0 max throughput is ~30mbytes/s.

I have a pogoplugs of various kinds serving out files to my house over samba. Overall, you aren't going to have issues with diskless consumption devices.

For giggles:
Arch x86_64 -> PPV4, via Samba over GbE, endpoint a WD 3TB USB3 drive, ext4 formatted, ~800MB mkv file: average 14.8MB/s
Arch x86_64 -> PPV4, via Samba over GbE, endpoint a 500GB SATA drive, ext4 formatted, ~800MB mkv file: average 15.1MB/s

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'F')or giggles:
Arch x86_64 -> PPV4, via Samba over GbE, endpoint a WD 3TB USB3 drive, ext4 formatted, ~800MB mkv file: average 14.8MB/s

That's not bad for most uses, it exceeds 100mbit/s so for people not using GbE it won't even matter.
