NEW USER. Where do I Start?

Postby FortyOne » Mon Feb 25, 2013 6:40 am

Okay so i just purchased a Pogoplug v4 hoping to get an easy too to just plug the device in and find it infinder on the mac and find it in network place on the pc BUt............. this requires internet access and the software to use which sucks.

I have the pogoplug and a seagate 750 gb harddrive which is using the sata port on top. What i want is for the device to be used simply as a local network storage where i can access the files through explorer on the pc and using finder on the mac. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Question number two. At some point i would like to be able to get another drive and swap it on the fly. So...my question is do i have to install samba on the hard drive that i want networked or can i install the files onto a 1 gb flashdrive and still have it use sata port to network the drive?

You have to have some storage device always plugged in for the rootfs, everything else can be hot swapped. 1GB should do.

Alright Question Number 3.
I got the flash drive and hard drive and pogoplug all ready. Enabled ssh and set password. I have the ip ready and everything. But, cmd.exe won't let me run ssh (yes this is all new to me). How should I access it to help me proceed. Running windows 7 64 bit by the way.
