safely remove usb

im just wondering if there is a way to safely remove usb drive on my pogoplug v2 or is it ok to just pull out the usb drive.

Do NOT just pull it out.
If it is mounted on /media/foo then first:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'umount /media/foo')
Adjust mount point as necessary.
If it is mounted on /media/foo then first:
