Couple of Pogoplug E02 questions - installation and dlna

Postby woodr141 » Mon May 20, 2013 2:47 pm

I just bought a new E02 off eBay. As a Linux noob, I still generally get what the installation instructions for ArchLinux ARM (pink/gray) are doing, but let me reveal my true depth of ignorance with these two questions:

1) So, you're really installing ArchLInux on the USB drive and thereafter always booting/running from the USB drive? It's not actually flashing the AL kernel to the Pogo itself?

2) To stream video from the Pogo after AL installation, you then have to install miniDLNA? Or what? if it's miniDLNA, where are the best instructions to apply that to the ArchLinux ARM system?

Thanks, R.

1) Yes that is correct

2) pacman -S minidlna
- change the config file to suit your needs
- systemctl enable minidlna ( to start at boot)
- systemctl start minidlna

Hope this helps.

Excellent. Thanks very much for the clarifications to my noob confusion. I'll also be setting up Samba, so this is going to be an interesting 3-day weekend project for me.

It's an awesome little box, the E02
I have apache, samba, php, webmin, the original function (dropbox type thing), an even a lightweight xwindows which I access via vnc, it also serves as a webproxy to bypass my works webfilter :)

have fun :)

That's sweet. If I can just get AL, Samba, miniDLNA and webmin set up this weekend (correctly), I'll be a happy pup.

I have instructions on samba and an alternative minidnla (the one included in original pogoplug software) in my signature.

Webmin:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'pacman -Sy webmin perl-net-ssleay nano
nano /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf
#allow=0.0.0.0
systemctl start webmin
#https://pogoplugip:10000
')

So, update. Finally had a little time and successfully installed ALA and (using grayman's excellent directions) installed and am accessing Webmin. Samba and minidlna shall follow over the next day or so. Thanks to all for their excellent help.

This is going to be sweet.

Well, got MiniDLNA installed fine. All of this has gone without a hitch - until now. Just installed Samba 4 and after the installation, tried to enable the services. Here's what I got:

(19/21) installing cifs-utils [######################] 100%
(20/21) installing smbclient [######################] 100%
(21/21) installing samba [######################] 100%
[root@alarm /]# systemctl enable smb nmb
Failed to issue method call: No such file or directory

Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated.
