V2 or V4 which is faster/better

Postby g8jvm » Fri Jun 07, 2013 8:42 am

Hi
Still looking at getting another, which is the better ? the V2 or the V4

the spec I've seen shows the V4 to be slower, but dual core, has anyone made a comparison when running a high usage app like motion.
The V4 appears to be lower cost as well.
All comments appreciated
Best wishes

V3 is dual core (and is not supported anymore) V4 has the same CPU but it's running at 800MHz instead of 1.2GHz. Depends what you really want from the device. If they were the same price I would get the V2

Thanks Moonman
I'd looked at previous threads and they were not conclusive.
I will be in the US in two weeks time, and they are lower cost there, so time to grab another.

have fun
Best wishes

The only benedit of v4 is usb3 port which is found to be of no benefit :) when used with usb storage and samba as throughput is actually lower because the cpu is slower. V3 would've been a good choice if its cpu was supported better by its manufacturer.

I haven't tested the V4, but I've tested the V3 and the V2 with motion. The big difference I saw was the memory. The V3 ran out of memory pretty fast and had to have a swap file to handle more than two cameras. The V2 didn't start getting flaky until I had 4 cameras running on it.
From the specs I read the V4 takes the V2, cuts the speed of the CPU and removes half of the memory. Its a no brainer in my book the V2 wins.
