Pink not booting to Arch Linux ARM install on hardresets

Postby technosf » Sat Jan 08, 2011 10:59 pm

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has experience the following -On hard resets Pink goes to Pogo Linux. To get to Plug linux, you have to log into Pogo linux and do a soft reboot.

My understanding is that Pink should boot directly to the OS on USB media on a hard reset.

Thanks

Is it a USB stick? Sounds like the USB device is not ready in time for the boot sequence from a hard reset.

Try a different USB stick.

I had all sorts of problems with boot when I was using a Kingston usb drive... I got fed up and switched to a cheap freebee generic I had kicking around and it's been fine since.

Switch drives. You can use tar to make an archive of the current filesystem and restore on a new stick.

I got a nice Patriot X200 16Gigger... Shame :(

It'd be fine to put up a page on the Wiki to sort these suckas out.

Thanks guys.

... Following up, I changed the cloudengines boot parameters using blparam to see if i could delay hitting the USB stick.

I got the current settings:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', './blparam')

and updated the bootdelay param from 3 to 10 (I am assuming this is seconds here!).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', './blparam "bootdelay=10"')

A hardreset later, I didn't brick it, but still not finding the USB until the softreset.

Add your experiences with USB Sticks and booting on the wiki:

I have almost the exact same problem. I got a new x200 usb stick and installed Arch Linux ARM install Linux on it. The first reboot went well so I installed all my stuff (like sabnzbd, samba etc.). It was all working fine....but then i switched the device off.

And now I am unable to boot from the damn stick. Not even after doing a reboot within the pogo os. The stick seems to be fine though...I am still able to mount it and edit files...but its not booting whatsoever. I tried the same stick twice now and the result remains the same.

I find this really frustrating because a cheap free giveaway stick works (only 1GB which isn't enough). There has to be a way to get those fast sticks booting....?!?!
