Now totally lost with update on pogo

Postby sxk » Sun Jun 09, 2013 5:02 pm

Hi folks

I had these pogos running for a year or so, recently did a update on the one running happily - bad move

Then I couldn't bring it back up after reboot. OK. Played around with trying to bring back ssh - moving the thumb drive between pogo and laptop. After playing with systemd service files, configs, inventive use of /etc/rc.local suddenly the thumb drive died

Got a rootfs tarball from 12/2012 and did a fresh install on a new thumbdrive and can log in and run ssh and so on. Now if I try to update initially it barfs at /bin, /sbin exists ... Followed the posts on here, on arch forums and the allanmcrae blog and so on. Trouble is I am not sure how far behind I am.

Here is my question - request: Are we going to get a most up to date or most recent rootfs tarball with a snapshot anymore considering that the device is now deprecated. I already have 3 of them - so deprecated does not help me now :P

If we are not going to get a new rootfs tarball, is there a logical way through starting from 12/2012 tarball and ending up with current.

I am going to get a few more thumbdrives, seem to be killing these like flies!

Thanks folks

I don't know if this is ok to post it here. I managed to get the pogo back to function in a manner of speaking. I used the 12-12 rootfs from the archlinux arm download and instead of doing any pacman -Syu I jest let it be. That also meant no ftp/http servers and so on and with out these pogo is sitting pretty doing not much. So I thought I will get the current versions of lighttpd and vsftpd and just used pacman -Su FILE_NAME. Obviously that is not recommended way of doing things but since I can do a normal pacman -Syu I thought I will try my luck. Both lighttpd and vsftpd installed without any gruntle and are working well. I even installed php. At this point I downloaded several files from the cn.archlinuxarm.org and stored locally. I am planning to put the files I used on the net - if that is acceptable practice. I don't mind hosting a few relevant packages on the site - these will be the versions that worked for me. I won't be updating these versions for obvious reasons. I can't promice that they work but they are working for me.

If anyone wants the files please go to http://107.221.148.193/arm/index.html . Please remember that these files are hosted on a pogo and live on a puny flash drive - so be patient if you are downloading and it is slow!

BTW: Has anyone managed to update the 12-12 rootfs to current mirrors?

Thanks

If this is somehow breaking any laws please let me know - I can take the files down.

What device do you have? There are many threads about updating. Run uname -a

It doesnt breake any laws, these are all opensource packages
Pogoplug V4 | GoFlex Home | Raspberry Pi 4 4GB | CuBox-i4 Pro | ClearFog | BeagleBone Black | Odroid U2 | Odroid C1 | Odroid XU4

Hi there

My uname -a says as below.
[root@alarm ~]# uname -a
Linux alarm 2.6.31.6_SMP_820 #6 SMP Thu Jun 14 19:49:57 CDT 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux

[root@alarm ~]# file /boot/uImage.nopci
/boot/uImage.nopci: u-boot legacy uImage, Linux-2.6.31.6_SMP_820, Linux/ARM, OS Kernel Image (Not compressed), 2288744 bytes, Thu Jun 14 19:50:32 2012, Load Address: 0x60008000, Entry Point: 0x60008000, Header CRC: 0x03F17E7B, Data CRC: 0xAB975482

I tried doing an update - pacman -Syu and hits a hiccup somewhere down the line. I followed using the several guides. On my desktops and laptops I managed w/o major problems. However everytime I try to do the same on any of the pogos it bails out.

Here is a rundown of what I did.
Format flash drive on a different system
Unpack the rootfs in to that, change the /usr/local/mac_addr, put it in pogo as the only connected drive and power it.
It comes on line and then ssh in to it and change pw
Start paman -Syu --ignore glibc, filesystem or according to some other guides --ignore bash
After that see what is left in all the older sbin and bin directories, see who owns it and remove them
I kind of forgot what happened around this stage but generally sysvinit/filesystem or someother package has files there.

After what seem like a update either I fail to update bash/filesystem/glibc or it appears ok and a reboot dies. I wonder if this has to do with new net-slot-names?

I kind of left it without update and installed lighttpd/vsftpd. So it is kind of working but shame to not be able to update/install cups and so on.

If I made a silly mistake please point it out. I might restart the process and come back here.

Is it possible to make the arch arm current - I can install most uptodate stuff and then leave it well alone w/o trying any updates.

Thanks

You have an oxnas device which isn't really supported anymore. You are in the wrong forum. There's an updated rootfs available without the updates problem, but you will have to find your own initscripts for packages. viewtopic.php?f=29&t=5733#p32586

OOPS. I didn't mean to post in the wrong forum. I know I have oxnas device but did not realize that I was in the wrong place. I was looking forums to see if anyone was going to make a last best rootfs just like the thread you sent me to. You have no idea how glad I am that someone made the effort. I am downloading it as we speak and will be trying it pretty soon.

Thanks

I just installed the new rootfs. It is a relief to see pacman saying nothing to do :D

In the process of setting up cups.

Thanks a bunch.
