Dockstar doesn't allow remote connections

Postby Mercury1964 » Thu Jul 11, 2013 11:12 pm

Hello!
I bought a Dockstar recently for the purpose of installing ArchLinux. Got it today, found a working flash drive, and installed U-Boot and ArchLinux seemingly without errors. However, after the last step (reboot), the Dockstar stopped allowing connections through ssh and telnet. I can still ping it. It also won't boot without the flash drive, going from flashing amber to flashing green, back to flashing amber. I am quite comfortable with Linux (2+ years), but have absolutely no idea what I've done wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
John

Without the stick, it will eventually (2 minutes or so) bit to pogoplug, without their service.
Look at install page on how to install, as root, on another Linux system

*sigh*
So, my Dockstar is connected to my laptop's Ethernet port, which is configured (through the Ubuntu networking panel) to use DHCP and share its wlan connection. While poking around on the Archlinux drive, I found the startup log. It showed a different IP address than what I had assumed it had.
Then it hit me.
The computer I had been trying to connect to was, in fact, my laptop. When I saw the given IP in the networking panel, I had assumed that that was the Dockstar's IP address, as I usually have a static address over my wireless network. Three keystrokes later in the terminal, and I was connected to the Dockstar.
Moral of the story: No matter how much you (think you) know, you're always suspect to blinding flashes of the obvious.
