Setting MAC address after GoFlex Net installation

Postby pjt56 » Thu Aug 22, 2013 12:26 am

I followed these instructions successfully: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... goflex-net

except that step 17 (set MAC address) did not work, I got a different MAC address on reboot (02:50:43:A7:40:41).

I searched various forums, tried a few things, the last of which necessitated restoring the root partition from the distribution tar file.

What is the correct way to re-set the MAC address after installation is complete?

By the way, is there any documentation on using the serial console somewhere?

Thanks for any hints.

something like "fw_setenv ethaddr 00:01:02:03:04:05"

can you post your fw_printenv if you can ssh into it ?

You can uncomment one line each time in /etc/fw_env.config until you get the correct fw_printenv output. Then you can setenv, you may need to remount the partition to write though.

I'm actually up and running after re-populating the root partition, so my only issue right now is the MAC address.

I don't seem to have fw_printenv any more, though, nor a /etc/fw_env.config , so looks like I have more things I need to restore, apart from the distribution tarball.

Or do I interrupt auto-boot and do these from the serial console? Still looking for a guide on how to interact with the pre-boot environment - the Arch Wiki seems to be all about Grub2.

BTW, is there a way to submit updates to the http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... goflex-net ? Seems to be the main landing-spot for newbies, so it would be nice to keep it up to date. For example, the NTP and timezone setup info needs updating, which I would be glad to do.

yes, my fw_setenv is from an old archlinuxarm image, before upgrading the "filesystem" package, i have to manually move the fw_* binary to the new bin location.

May be you could find the "uboot-env" PKGBUILD on the web to build your own version.

What is your uboot version ?
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'grep -a --null-data U-Boot /dev/mtd0ro')
