GoFlex Home 1 TB

I am trying to get arch linux to use samba, minidnla(or better dnla if available),Netatalk, ftp, webmin and anything else that might be good for a media streaming nas. I am used to bsd but have been out of the game for a bit. Now the problem i am having is all these set up guides don't account for how to access second partition and how to share it with the rest of my network. I mean i can't even figure out how to access the second partition on the drive. There is no volumes folder like in bsd :S though in the partitioning tool it lists both partitions and I have webmin up and running. FTP access works to alarm partition. Samba shows alarm but will not allow me to login to it. I just can't find anything on my device what the names would be and how the installs change. So if anyone has a good solid guide on how to set up a goflex to work like stock one using arch I would love it. I wish pacman worked as well as fink. I would love a remote/web gui for dnla/samba/netatalk as well. Oh i installed emacs as well as i found it to be the best editor when I was programing in redhat/bsd. you get the point i am looking for direct guides for my device.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman_rosetta

And I would suggest MOUTING the partition.. and then sharing the folder of that mount point.

So i decided to go back to stock firmware as i could not get samba to work, the thing is i didnt realise you needed to download firmware tools for the flash back to work.

So now I stand with stock goflex that i used to format the harddrive in the new one i tried to install arch into. I think i need to do a netcolsole recovery but I am not sure what the step by step directions are. I have both the ability to use a switch or a crossover cable. Not sure if i need both or if I can just try to do it off of a switch without crossover. Then what the step by step process is to to load a new boot loader. How do i interrupt the boot process, and force to boot off usb or do i even need to boot off usb? How should I make a usb jump for boot off my mac without windows or linux.

Is there a way to boot to copy boot files back onto the other harddrive if i reformat it to ext3 or 4?

This is seriously the hardest place to find linux build info i have ever used. I have helped put a custer together with 6 computers using redhat before it was comercial and that was easier to figure out then this. I am comfortable writing and building my own programs as well and compiling them with gcc. I just have never used netcolsole and am not sure how to removed eth addr aliases after and if it will mess up my internet connection on my laptop. Only linux/bsd install i have failed on before this was x11 onto a power pc 8100 (110 mhz)with nebus(try finding drivers for that!).

Any step by step process someone could put in the forum for me would make me forever greatful.

The stock software is not on the HDD at all.
