PP-E02: SSH connection refused.

Postby ThinkFast » Wed Dec 18, 2013 5:02 am

Earlier today, I was moving some things around near my Pogoplug.
Then I happened to check the bitcoin miner status online. There was no activity. So I opened Putty and connected to the Pogoplug successfully. I noticed the lights on the Erupters were lit constantly. So I started the daemon with the command "systemctl start cgminer". Then I went monitor the activity of the Erupters with "Screen -r". CGMiner was running, but I could see the results were being rejected. I did CTRL-C to get back to the console. Then I attempted to reboot the Pogoplug. I issued the command shutdown -R now. There was not response and the session hung. Then eventually the SSH session was terminated.

Now I can't access Pogoplug via SSH. I was able to Ping 10.0.0.xxx (Current IP)
Checked online, Pogoplug site thinks Pogoplug is turned off.

I tried to SSH from my PPC OSX 10.4.11 and Putty from my WXPSP3 PC. Same response.

I could just rebuild it from scratch, but I lose a lot of progress.

Q: Can I view the memory stick from my PPC and repair any corrupted data. I this recommended? Or will the OSX misunderstand the file structure? Can I look/edit at the contents of the linux file structure?

Thanks in advance, Rick

Check it with linux. Live CD/USB is okay.

I booted the SystemRescueCD3.81. I ran Testdisk on the USB key. I wasn't sure what filesystem to choose, but guessed UFI. Selected Analysis and it said the system was Ok.

Then I mounted the USB key and used the filemanger to browse the system. Most folders were contained data, subdirectories. The exceptions were: (root, proc, sys, tmp). I'm assuming that this is because the other permissions were "---". I looked at the hosts file and the ssh_config, sshd_config files, most things were commented out.

Would it be easier to rebuild the system from scratch or to try to troubleshoot?
If I rebuild, I can skip the uboot install right?
At what point during the rebuild process, do I switch from using root and start using a user created login?

Thanks.

If I format the flash drive and reinstall, I don't need to reinstall the boot loader, right?

You can try to troubleshoot with netconsole to see why it doesn't want to boot up.
To reinstall follow the guide on the main page or in my signature. U-Boot doesn't need to be reinstalled and you shouldn't to avoid bigger problems.

I have reinstalled ArchlinuxARM.
I installed bfgminer, but it doesn't see my miners.
If bfgminer needs to access the USB ports would the user need to be a member of any specific groups?
