Sync with Remote Cloud Server

Postby gotcha640 » Tue Jan 07, 2014 4:02 pm

Hi All

I had been using the pogoplug as a download box to take part of the strain off a dying desktop file server, and I've since let the desktop die and moved everything to the plug.

Everything, that is, except Dropbox. I understand from several threads that there is no installing dropbox daemon on ARM, and I've grabbed Dropbox-Uploader (https://github.com/andreafabrizi/Dropbox-Uploader), excellent work, I wrote and thanked the man.

I had been using dropbox as a way to get around my super slow upload speeds at home. If I kept my latest media in the dropbox folder, and rotated it out as space got tight and new stuff came in, I could get movies and music from remote connections with no trouble. My laptop can chug through the updates in the background at work.

So, are there any suggested methods for syncing files on the plug with an external cloud (I know the pogoplug is trying to be a cloud, not sure how to refer to the dropbox/google drive/mega type clouds)? I'm hoping for something free, even with tight size limits, but if nothing is readily available, I've been looking at seedboxes and owncloud providers that I assume I could set up an rsync and do what I want.

You might consider rsync.net, there is a ALARM user discount code to get you a very nice deal with them.
