Compile new kernel for Pogoplug v4

Postby noggin » Mon Jan 13, 2014 10:44 pm

Hi all

Just followed the instructions here : http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5 ... g-series-4 to install arch linux on my Pogoplug v4. All went well. Hope to run the v4 as a simple Freeview HD Network TV tuner using a USB stick.

Am new to Arch Linux, but managed to install the right packages to compile TV Headend for use with my PCTV 290e DVB-T2 USB tuner. However the current kernel installed has a known bug ( https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1361523 ) with the PCTV 290e driver, which has been fixed in more recent kernels. Is there a straightforward (probably not?) way of updating the kernel?

I'll try rebuilding the Linux V4L drivers if I can - but wondered if there was a different way.

Love the work that has gone into this. Thanks to all involved

Make sure you have linux-kirkwood installed.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
[armv5] [git] core/linux-kirkwood (3.12.6-2|3.12.6-2): done, build time: 24m, last built: Tue Dec 24 21:13:39 2013

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm new to this. How would I go about doing this?

uname -r returns 3.1.10-29-ARCH

Ignore this. Have realised pacman is my friend.

However, have updated to linux-kirkwood (uname -r returns 3.12.6-2-ARCH )

Still have the same bugs in the PCTV 290e driver.

Looks like this may be the cause : http://linux-kernel.2935.n7.nabble.com/ ... 71487.html

Is there any way of solving this as a relative newbie to this? Do I wait for a new Linux-kirkwood to be made available via Pacman? Any way I can compile my own?

Hmm - looking at dmesg there were quite a lot of xhci errors. Have re-installed ArchLinux to a 2.5" SATA drive, and have plugged PCTV 290e into USB2.0 rather than USB3.0 ports on the PogoPlug v4. Installed linux-kirkwood and built TV Headend and so far, so good.
