Update uBoot from within Arch?

Postby beyondbuxton » Sat Aug 09, 2014 9:32 pm

Hello,

First visited this forum almost 2 years ago when I ran into (self-induced) issues with a PPv4 I had purchased from Amazoo. With the help of this forum that device has, knock on wood, been running 24x7 ever since. Tough little bugger.

I recently took possession of another PPv4 and am in the process of bringing it online as well. What I would like to do is to boot it from the USB port in the top of it (that part is working just fine now) with another USB drive plugged into one of the USB3 ports on the back (which isn't working right now).

As it is, the only way I have been able to get the PPv4 to boot is to remove the USB drive from the USB3 port on the back. Once booted, I am able to plug the second USB drive into the USB3 port on the back and it works just fine (until reboot). After a little bit of reading, I'm wondering if a tweak of the uBoot env is required? (I tried updating the fstab without a change to this behaviour that I could see?)

If it is a uBoot issue, my question: can I modify that env without having to console the device?

If I'm barking up the wrong tree, where should I be looking to modify this behavior?

Thanks,
BB

Look up on how to use initrd with Arch. Then you will be able to tell U-Boot to always select the rootfs drive on USB 2.0 for booting. This can be done by using rootfs partition label in kernel bootargs. I think moonman has this instruction somewhere in the forum.
