Root/Root does not Work on SSL 7.0 Alarm/Alarm works but has

Hi- I am in a real bind:
I installed Archlinux on a device and root/root does not work on putty.
I can get in using alarm/alarm, but I cannot install programs including sudo because alarm does not have root access.
How do I correct this?

Switch to root with 'su root', then install sudo
