[Solved] Bricked GoFlex Home? No ssh.

Postby klitterbandje » Wed Sep 30, 2015 11:31 pm

Hey,

I'm think I just bricked my goflex home. I had archlinux running, but somehow i cant reach it anymore. No SSH access and it doesnt seem to get an ip adress. cant find it in my network anymore.

i cant boot from usb, because i didnt enable it in uboot.

is it possible to write the goflex recovery files to the hdd itself instead of an usb drive (if i connect the hdd to my pc) and recover/reset? or any other way to unbrick it.
nothing to see in netconsole on my ubuntu pc.

:(

please help

Yes, take your hdd out of the enclosure and connect to your PC. Follow official reinstall guide or the one in my signature.

After that I would suggest updating your U-Boot and installing rescue system

I managed to open my GoFlex Home.
I connected the disk to my Windows 10 PC.

I see 3 partitions: 20GB (arch linux?), 4GB (swap?), and the last one is 900+GB.
I wanna reflash the original Seagate software (if possible), but where do I store the firmware files?

Can I just make one ext3 partition, drop 'em there, plug it into the goflex and reset (and reformat the disk afterward this is complete) ?

Thanks in advance

Original software is stored in nand, not on the drive. There are a couple of threads on the forum.
You won't be able to do much from windows. You need linux to write to filesystem on the drive

The official way to restore is to drop the files on an usb stick.
I can't boot USB from uboot but still want to restore the nand to the original firmware.

I also have ubuntu & debian running.

I'll first try to reinstall alarm.
Can I just unpack the latest kirkwood to the first ext3 partition?

I see all the files from the (corrupted) system on my disk.

Yes, that's what the guide says. You have to do it as root though, not sudo.

I tried it.

When I use sync, nothing happens.
Plugged the disk back into the goflex, but the green light keeps flashing.

Just a note:
I used media/it. The partition is labeled rootfs, but media/rootfs doesn't work. I see the label, but it's mounted on media/it.

Does it make a difference?

Thanks
