use it as NAS?

I just bought the pogoplug pink B01 and found that I cannot see the connected portable HD in the network but only via upnp on my media player or from the pc using the downloaded software. I found this forum but before I spend time to learn about installing archlinux, I just want to check and make sure that by installing archlinux, it will enable me to see the portable HD on the network like a NAS. Can anyone confirm this?

You will still have to learn how to install and setup Samba, NFS, or whatever you choose. Prepare for a learning curve if you aren't familiar with Linux...
