Some sort of sleep mode???

Postby LunarBanjo » Mon Jan 16, 2012 4:20 pm

Hi all,

I have a Pink PogoPlug Pro and a 500GB Seagate external drive. Just got ArchLinux set up with netatalk to create a file server--very awesome. I'm mainly want to use it to stream videos across the network and manually backup important files every once in a while.

At any rate, I'm only planning on accessing the drive 2-3 times a day and am wondering if there's a way to put the plug (or at least the drive) into some sort of power-saving "sleep" mode automatically. Or would it be better for the drive if it was on all the time?

Thanks for all of the wonderful guides and support. This is pretty cool!

Well congrats on success so far, as for getting the drive to spin down, it might need to be adjusted to spin down faster (it may by itself, in time. Mine does with several)

You may have to move your installation to another drive. Typically, the drive with ALARM installed will not spin down because it's constantly being accessed. Your media drives on the other hand can spin down when not in use.

Maybe Laptop Mode Tools help with USB drives as well
