USB-audio?

Postby jziegler » Mon Aug 13, 2012 1:08 am

I purchased a Pogoplug PRO a few months ago hoping to use it for a newtork audio player using softsqueeze, and then ready that USB audio did not work a few hours after placing the order. I waited a while, knowing that there was active development on the project, and so I decided to just wait. Fast-forward, and I've now been trying to get ut working, and am having some difficulties. Anytime I try to run softsqueeze (or any program that accesses the audio interface), I get timeouts. The programs will start, but don't play any audio.

I've go a CMedia based USB audio stick. I have the latest updates installed, with the PCI kernel (trying to get WiFi working as well). The sound driver appears to load, but does not appear to be functional. Has anyone else had any experience getting sound working with these latest updates?

I'll fill in any details as requested.

Thanks,
James

Since there have been no replies so far, I'll add a little more information. Here's the console output when I run squeezeslave:

Expression 'r' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 2006
Expression 'PaAlsaStreamComponent_FinishConfigure( &self->playback, hwParamsPlayback, outParams, self->primeBuffers, realSr, outputLatency )' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 2650
Expression 'PaAlsaStream_Configure( stream, inputParameters, outputParameters, sampleRate, framesPerBuffer, &inputLatency, &outputLatency, &hostBufferSizeMode )' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 2755
output_thread: PortAudio error1: Unanticipated host error

dmesg shows the following (many more of these too):

[ 446.230000] usb 1-1.2: squeezeslave timed out on ep0out len=0/0
[ 446.230000] 4:2:1: usb_set_interface failed
[ 451.240000] usb 1-1.2: squeezeslave timed out on ep0out len=0/0
[ 451.240000] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed
[ 456.250000] usb 1-1.2: squeezeslave timed out on ep0out len=0/0
[ 456.250000] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed
[ 461.260000] usb 1-1.2: squeezeslave timed out on ep0out len=0/0
[ 461.260000] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed

So, any ideas if this is the driver or a library problem? Is there anything other than alsalib that I need to install for an audio device to work?

Thanks,
James

My USB sound card needs the cm109 kernel module, which is currently not available in the alarm kernel.

Try plugging in the card on something running a standard linux desktop, run lsmod and see if cm109 is listed.

Thanks for the tip, I don't see that module listed when I plug the USB soundcard into my Ubuntu netbook.

There must be something else causing the problem. Hopefully it will work on the next kernel build when that comes out.
