Formatted USB, pogoplug does not boot

Postby hugohugo » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:57 am

hey hey,

I've -sort of- accidentally formatted the USB on wich I installed Arch ARM Linux on. Now it -obviously- does not boot anymore.
Is there any way of installing Arch ARM Linux again on the USB stick, so it will boot again?

Hope anyone can help, or otherwise the pogoplug is ready for the trash.

Get the rootfs for the Pogoplug Pro here on this page: http://us.mirror.archlinuxarm.org/os/
Rootfs for the Pogoplug Pro: ArchLinuxARM-oxnas-latest.tar.gz

On another Linux box, login as root, extract this rootfs to the USB thumb and use it to boot the pogoplug again.

I see this is an old thread, but I tried doing that (installing rootfs on usb), but keep getting permissions issues.

My setup is as follows:
Ubuntu 12.04 on the laptop
Pogoplug P21

I have untarred the file on the laptop and tried to move the files to the USB and get a 'symbolic link' issue.
I have tried to untar it on the usb by moving the tar file to the usb and then untar and get permissions issues even though I'm using sudo su.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't untar it to your machine and try to copy it over, you must untar the image to the flash drive.

Take a look at this guide. Basically you need to wipe the partition table, make a new partition, and make a new file system on that new partition. This gets us to a known good state.

If you're still running into issues, it will be helpful to paste the Terminal output here (please use the code tag to make it easier to read).
