[Solved] Boot from USB, serve data from SATA?

Postby kuleszdl » Sat Dec 22, 2012 1:35 am

I have read parts of the thread about booting entirely off SATA. This sounds interesting but I am trying to do the opposite: Boot from USB but have the data etc. on a drive connected via SATA (so I can replace the system easily without affecting the data).

Is this setup supported? It seems like it always tries to boot off from sata once it finds a drive there and gets stuck. Attaching the drive after it booted off USB (tried both powering up and attaching sata cable) does not seem to do the trick - I guess the controller does not support hotplug.

Any ideas?

You're right, hotplugging doesn't work. However, try this after booting up and then connecting and/or powering up your SATA drive:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'echo "0 0 0" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan')
