$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('cyberic', 's')yncable or not, changed or not, do you have lots of source files and directories?
you could try with a subdirectory

Yes, some of the directories have many thousands of files. The thing is, until a few days ago ALL of them synced OK. I added the files to just one of the directories, and that's when it "died". I have since tried other directories, the ones with many thousands of files that were syncing perfectly OK over the last few months, and they die too.

I brought another Pogo box over last night, I'll set it up in a few hours to try more debugging; I can't afford for the current one to keep falling off the network all the time, during the day it's the primary SMB server here.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WarheadsSE', 'C')hecked the disk(s)?

Yes. Clean. Also, the files can be synced to the remote site by a win7 box that mounts the remote FS via SSH and the local via SMB.

Re: rsync crashing TCP stack - more weirdness

The plot? Yup, it thickens.

So, I brought another Plug over. Let's call this one Pinky, as opposed the original which was ... TheBrain.

Shut down TheBrain and duplicated its HDD via "cp -a" to a 4GB 2.5" HDD laptop drive in an external enclosure. (Yes, children, there were times when laptops came with a whooping 4GB hard drives.)

Changed the MAC address and the name of the unit in "rc.conf" leaving everything else untouched.

Booted the the newly cloned Pinky and on a lark mounted TheBrain's HDD over NFS. All was well.

Since the HDD was mounted to the same relative path "/mnt/2TB" I decided to run the syncing command. It worked. Beautifully.

According to 'top" idle never dropped under 86% and swap usage never went over 25300 out of 524200.

I am happy for now, but I still need to find out why TheBrain crashes. So, your suggestions are still welcome.

Absolutely identical except for machine names.
