I did a comparision of network an USB speed limittations between Pogoplug Pro and E02. You can find the figures in the following thread: http://pogoplug.cwsurf.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13&start=0 (Network speed|filesystem speed|samba speed).
The USB reading speed is not so different. But the USB writing speed is limitted to just around 21 MB/s on the Pogoplug Pro even with overclocking to 850 MHz. The Pogoplug E02 reaches 30 MB/s USB writing speed!
The Raspberry PI uses also an ARMv6 architecture and they figured out USB speed problem. It seams that they tried to improve the USB driver and implemented some additional options in the USB driver to reduce CPU load consumption of the USB interface. It might be helpful to check if some changes could be taken over to improve the USB writing performance of the ARMv6 Pogoplugs. I don't have the necessary knowledege to do that.
