Possibly bricked b04 during reinstall

Postby saxon » Mon Sep 26, 2011 4:09 pm

Hello, I'am afraid that I might have bricked my Pogo B04. I had it running under archlinux for some months. Yesterday evening I wanted to test the original firmware and ran the oxnas revert script. After some initial problems about missing files it finished succesfull with the hints of warheads forum post. After a reboot there was no pogoplug service running and I decided to revert back to archlinux. I followed the instalation procedure and the script said it finished succesfull. Now to the Problem : after the reboot the pogo is not reachable - it doesn't fetch an ip via dhcp. Am I in trouble now? The front led is blinking very fast if that has any meaning.

Thanks in advance.

That pretty much means that it at least got past uboot. There may be some other issues at hand, is your rootfs attached?

Yes, the usb drive with the rootfs is attached next to the ethernet port, I even made a new rootfs on the stick (including adding the mac address). I have abolutly no clue what went wrong.

Is there any chance to revive my pogoplug? Setting a static ip with the rootfs mounted to my ubuntu machine didn't change anything.

My guess: kernel nand space problem, but I can't be sure.

Most definitely, but a serial cable is the beginning. One way or another, you will be able to use your plug again but the frosting is gone from the cake so to speak.

So, I just ordered a DKU-5 cable and a CA-42 cable (just to be sure one of them works). I'am reading through that viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1203 guide now, hoping to bring my pogoplug back to life.

My cable has arrived and I think that I've identified the correct wires via this site : http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-Nokia/ ... nout.shtml .

Now I'am a little bit confused about the serial pinout. As far as I understand I have to connect GND, Rx, Tx to the connector labeled J3. What is the correct order when the pogoplug is in front of me so that I can read J3 (the power supply would be on the left side of the housing)

Following these steps : viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1203 would make my machine boot again?

Thanks in advance.

Spot on.

This of course assumes that there is not a problem with the NAND itself, but the serial cable will allow you to:
- watch the boot process
- interact with / interrupt uboot
- control which device is booted from

Assuming that you find it is a problem booting the kernel (most likely) then manually reverting the uboot settings should take care of things. It's one of those "I'll have to see what is really going on" scenarios.
