I am going to build a USB-capable U-Boot 2011.09 and checked through that hacked up 2.6.31 and followed the additions with a visual diff tool (meld to be exactly). And found out that the USB stuff is EHCI but with some initialization code running before it. In a few days, I am going to try that U-Boot port on hardware. If it works, it is exactly that what it looks like from the source and the modification will get on some repository for access. This delay is simply there because too many people already bricked the NAS sold by Medion. You probably read posts by other fellow owners of that PLX 782x based device.

Well, thats the beauty of this method. Since the SoC loads everything directly from the disk, there is no "bricking" the device.

Exactly, but the Medion NAS was sold to all sorts of customers. Stupidly, it seems to include a "brick it" button.

thanks, so I can check out bits I miss from that hacked up kernel 2.6.31 and put them in a fork in a cleaned up variant.
Modularizing the original kernel from the Medion NAS is just painful. They definitely hacked it up, too. Just that they did not break the XFS support.

See what we've done on the 3.1 kernel. It's much cleaner.

I have not yet looked but I assume that any coder with some pride would do it cleaner.
Did you connect the LED trigger support on the OX820 SATA code?
