wanted to update this. Its now resolved. I'm back in. I never did get my home made console cable to work, but i was able to finally, correctly flash my boot thumbdrive in Parted Magic Linux so that it would actually get an ip from my dhcp. Now I just have to give a static ip again and not forget it. Thanks for all the help
