The updates eventually need devtmpfs yes, for initscripts. He needs to get his kernel updated.

before you reboot with a new initscripts installed, you need to update your kernel.

Use new kernel
Use newest rootfs
The kernel update script has note about manual flash of kernel to NAND.

Ok I'm going to try update this weekend are the below instructions correct

1. Grab the latest rootfs (ArchLinuxARM-2012.07-oxnas-rootfs.tar.gz)
2. Get updated tarball
3. Run the update script commenting out the erase and flash kernel lines
4. Run pacman -Syu and it would result into udev and udev-oxnas conflict so remove udev-oxnas and reinstall it before reboot (Correct me here whether the new kernel needs to be flashed before running this)
5. Flash Kernel with pci image
nandwrite -p -s 0x500000 /dev/mtdb1 oot/uImage.pci

udev-oxnas is no longer needed with the latest builds.
