Is my Pogoplug Pro dead?

Postby jarvic7 » Fri Apr 22, 2011 8:56 pm

I used the previous install and was never able to even get a flickering light much less a ssh after reboot (but notice internal blue light on board). Tried creating new usb fils system from updated install ver here : http://Arch Linux ARM.com/index.php5/Install_on_Pogoplug_Pro

Hoping that would fix it -- nothing. The network cable flickers a bit, internal blue light on, no light on front panel -- not showing up as attached device on router :(

Is there any hope?

ps: I have the black pogoplug -- somewhere it showed up as V1 or Pro

Thanks in advance :)

The model number is on the the bottom of the device, and it is more than likely not dead. If you give us the model number, we can tell you which it is.

Seemingly, the worst case scenario is the need for a serial cable.

It's definitely a Pro, but 99.9% chance it's not dead, just goofy somewhere. A serial cable will get you sorted out for sure, but I can assist via IRC in resolving exactly whats happening.

ok but it sounds like it's a custom serial cable I need. Is that correct? It's not an off the shelf item :\

Yes, it's not an off the shelf item.

Instructions are available on the wiki, or you could have someone make one for you.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jarvic7', 'w')ill look at instructions again -- what do pre-made serial cables cost?

I believe the appropriate answer for this question is "it all depends on how much you are willing to pay".

I paid 15 USD for a FTDI USB to RS232 TTL 3.3V from ebay. The shipping is free and it will take a couple of weeks to arrive "state side" as it is shipped from China.

I hunted for Nokia CA-42 Connectivity Adapter Cable
Chopped off phone end, put a needle into end of insulation and pushed onto pins of board
