[RESOLVED] Torrents

Postby fuchini » Tue Sep 13, 2011 7:44 pm

Hi, Just installed Arch Linux Arm on my Pogoplug Pro. Just wanted to know if there is a way to install uTorrent (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43253) or a way to manage Transmission away from my network? For example a dynamic dns updater, like Dyn-Dns in windows.

Thanks a lot for any help or info.

I know, I did that before posting and the best thing I found was this:

http://linux.die.net/man/8/nsupdate

Which I barely understand. I posted because I wanted to know if there's an easier way to do that without using and Dynamic DNS updater. Just like uTorrent in Windows (just with username and password, no need to know your external IP or anything). Also wanted to know if a pogoplug pro could handle it.

You could try https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51504 or https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43253 I suppose.

I don't need to bother with it remotely myself, and I simply ssh tunnel into my home network anyways.

Thanks, I'll look into ssh tunneling and those other links. Also, thank you for all your work in this project.
Noob question: Don't you need to know your external IP or have a Domain to ssh tunnel to your network?

Yes...

My router keeps that up to date for me, all by itself.

I use ddclient in a cron.hourly script to update dyndns.org with the IP address of my router. Then I run an openvpn server on the pogo and forward a port from my router to it. With my laptop configured as an openvpn client, I can access from anywhere all services such as ssh, samba (as domain master), email (smtp, imap), printer (ipp), www, dns, etc. running on the pogo and/or other openvpn clients. I'm sure you could add a torrent service to that list. My personal preference is rsync over openvpn for remote access and backup of files.

Hello, sorry for not answering for a while (my router was damaged). My new router can now handle my dyndns domain and forward the transmission port (thanks WarheadsSE and Geoff for helping me). Now I'm going to put this post as solved.
