usb problem with ArchLinuxARM

Postby ianw » Fri Sep 23, 2011 11:08 pm

First of all, I really appreciate if anyone can help me out.

I bought one Pogoplug Pro (black version) recently. I follow the wiki page to put the Arch Linux ARM on it. With the default install, Arch won't recognize my USB printer(Brother HL-2140). dmesg told me something like "no configuration chosen". /dev/usb/lp0 is missing. Also, "lsusb" just returns nothing to me.

Is this because of the kernel? Is there anything I can do to make it work?

Here is what I have done with Pogoplug Pro:
1. Following the wiki page to put Arch Linux ARM.
2. pacman -Sy udev-oxnas
3. pacman -Syu

Thanks again for your help

If your 2140 is like my Brother HL 2030, forget it. The driver an cups wrapper from Brother is compiled for x86. I kinda knew it but spent 2 days nevertheless.
Look for something that does pcl.
linuxprinting.org is down at the moment, but even their list, or this http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Printing-HOWTO/printers.html can't reveal a manufactures pitfall.

I spent quite a bit of time trying to get my HL-2270W working, and while I got close, there are still parts that are x86 binaries only. We're mildly fucked.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I don't think the cups wrapper is necessary if Arch recognize the usb printer.

I have another dockstar running with debian. I don't need to do anything about the CUPS wrapper. I just simply configure the printer in cups(I even choose HP PCL type printer there). The driver from Brother was installed on the client machine (Win7) when adding the internet protocol printer. With these steps, the printer works great.

WarheadsSE, do you get any output for "lsusb"? Do you have /dev/usb/lop0 device?
