sun java embedded gives "Illegal Instruction" error

Postby elementz » Fri Sep 30, 2011 7:44 pm

I've tried to install sun embedded java on my pink pogo b04.
I downloaded the following package from suns embedded site:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')ava SE for Embedded 6
ARMv6/7 Linux - Headless
EABI, Hard Float (VFP), Little Endian

All available embedded packages from sun can be found here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/javase/index.html

Now after downloading, extracting and trying to run `java` i get the `Illegal Instruction` error. I figure it must be due to the wrong architecture? Is it possible at all to install embedded java on the pink pogo, or is there simply no suitable package available?

I don't think you have a hard float system

You need the armv5 soft-float edition. OpenJDK6 is also available in our repository.

The oxnas is definately NOT hard float, nor capable. Use what kmheilich said.

thx. i plan to use subsonic on the plug, but read that using it with openjdk would make it really slow, so i guess i will try to give the soft float edition a shot.

If you are referring to my howto install subsonic page, I was just sharing my experience... Could be isolated to only me. I have not had the free time to dig into why openjdk seemed slow.. one of these days. But feel free to try and report back your experience...
