rcS messed up

Postby thai » Wed Oct 05, 2011 6:40 am

Hello,

My rcS file is messed up. I think some wrong cmd I put before the /etc/init.d/hbmgr.sh line that cause hbmgr not running.
Now my pogoplug pro don't have networking ability and no USB drive is recognized.

I need somehow access to the unit and remove the line I added in rcS file.

What are my options?

Thanks

 rcS? How are you doing this install? Are you using this page?
http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6 ... tform_tabs

Or are you using a super-out-of-date wiki entry for the Pro? Last time you had to edit the original rcS file was for the chroot method (before April I believe).
If that is the case, you are gonna have to create a serial cable and get a little dirty
Follow THIS LINK (just the serial connecting part) to connect to the Pro then navigate to the rcS file.

Hope you made a backup! If not, just retrace your steps. Once you have it back to original follow THIS LINK TO INSTALL ALARM.

Good luck!

Hello slycat,

Thanks for your prompt response.
I guess I would have to use the serial cable. Hopefully, I don't have to do any soldering job.
Unfortunately, all the links to Arch Linux ARM.com are dead.
Anyone knows a link to how to open the Pogoplug Pro case?

Luckily, I have a DB9-to-RJ11 cable around. And base on this schema:
http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/DB9_to_RJ11
I think I can hook up the three needed wires (GND, Rx, Tx) to the Pro's board. (Please someone confirm I do not need soldering)
And the DB9 end to the serial port on my old windows box and fire the terminal up.
Will this work?

I think only if I used the USB port on my computer then I will need CA-42 or DKU-5 cable which have a transceiver, right?

Thanks

It must be a 3.3V serial cable, not a standard 5V, so be sure of that. And a standard computer port is 5V... There are descriptions in these forums of which pins are which.

Thanks WarheadSE for mentioning the voltage.
I guess the only option is to buy the CA-42 cable.
