New Pogoplug Classic (POGO-P04)

Postby firefoxPL » Thu Dec 08, 2011 1:58 pm

Hello, I am new to this forum and Pogoplug in general. I'm thinking of replacing my old laptop which for some time now is performing my personal "server" with DLNA, some automated downloading and OpenVPN functionality. At first I was thinking about getting one of the more powerful routers like WNDR3700 and putting OpenWRT on it (it wouldn't perform almost any routing tasks, since all that + wireless N is provided by Time Capsule). But I'm afraid that it won't have enough "juice" especially for the OpenVPN tasks (AES + SHA2) which I use everyday to hide my network traffic on open networks when I'm out of home.
I've looked into Beagleboard and Pandaboard but they are a little bit too expensive for the task, therefore I've turned to Pogoplug, but I have one big question - the Pogoplug Classic which one can buy from pogoplug.com for 39.95 Eur has product number POGO-P04 and I can't find a decisive answer whether it's compatible with archlinux. Can you help me out with this one?

Pogo-E02 (v2 Pink) - ALARM on USB (netatalk, avahi, cryptodev-linux, getting ready for L2TP)

P04 is likely the Euro version of the P01/P21. Run the following, and post the output, and I'll tell you what it is.

cat /proc/cpuinfo

Hi, I didn't order the device yet, I was kind of hoping that someone had an experience with pogoplug marked with P04 ;)
But you're probably right since I've chosen EU version and the UK version shows P03 (unfortunately US version is ordered from another store which doesn't show much additional info).
Can I ask you for a subjective opinion (no liability required :))? Do you think there is much chance that the currently selling devices from official web page will/will not be compatible with archlinux?

Well my guess is that it is one of the PLX Oxnas 7820 SoC, and just possibly a Kirkwood. Even the new Pogoplug Mobile should run our distribution, as it is a derivative of the Kirkwood. (Although we don't own one ATM)

Did the advertisement say it had wireless? If so that is a "Pro", and is definitely an Oxnas, and supported.

The web page doesn't provide much information: http://pogoplug.com/devices but only gigabit ethernet is listed, I think they would advertise WiFi if it had one.

If that is the "Classic" then it's 90% change its the "V3" "Classic" and Oxnas based. If not, it's a Kirkwood, and either way, supported.

Now I'm little confused - I've just got word through pogoplug fb channel that the current pogoplug classic is actually POGO-B01. But it seems that this one is also supported so I should have no problem with running custom linux on it.

Hi all.
I'm new here, but I've read a couple of threads (incl. this one) and I still have one question.

I would really love to get my hands on Pogoplug Classic, but I've encountered a "problem" with my purchase. When I add the EU version of Pogoplug Classic to my cart, the product number is POGO-P24. I halted my ordering procces right there. :)

I haven't found any topics, webpages related to this product number.
So, the obvious question is, will archlinux work on my soon-to-be Pogoplug?
