Hi all....

Success ;)

The latest driver from above is the first one to give me some output using "iwlist ra0 scanning" ... I guess, from now it should be no problem to join my wifi...Thank you!

You can download the driver (v2.4.0.4) from the following link:

tried it but the module is not loaded

I also tried to load it manually:

insmod ./rt3390sta.ko.gz
insmod: ERROR: could not insert module ./rt3390sta.ko.gz: Unknown symbol in module

Any idea?

You could check MD5-SUM: 63dd86e853b1f7a11e00c82eb9ccb132 and try to execute:

depmod -a
modprobe rt3390sta

Umm the checksum is correct and both command return nothing and the result for:

lsmod is till the same:

[root@alarm ~]# lsmod
Module Size Used by
bootled_module 1472 0
gmac 40012 0
mii 6200 1 gmac

May be it only works for debian, no archlinux

I mostly gave up on the idea of doing wireless because I just couldn't get it to work; however, I have been following this thread to see if maybe there is some breakthrough for people like me who have struggled to get iwlist to do anything.

I am also a little frustrated (not with the developers obviously) with the OXNAS kernel being subject to an NDA and thus the limiting the Pro to the older more challenging to use kernel.

All that being said, does it matter which mac_addr is being used in /usr/local for wireless? The wired mac address is what I currently have in mac_addr but I noticed that when I boot to the Pogoplug software, the router shows a different (the wireless card) mac address. Would this difference have anything to do with the lack of connectivity when I attempt to use wireless with ArchLinuxArm on the Pro?
Pogo Plug Pro with ALARM SATA rootfs
success: wireless, samba, sabnzbd, sickbeard, transmission, lamp with Gallery3 and newznab+, rsync server, tor
still trying: avahi, minidlna
up next: asterisk, openvpn, proxy server of some sort
gave up: nfs and lvm

The NDA isn't what is limiting it to 2.6.31. Not being able to bring PLX's hackish behavior forward, however, is the real PITA reason. We're making slow progress (since I and others don't have a tonne of free time) but it's progress.

The driver is working for me and some other users. I am not sure why does not work for some others. Also iwlist is working on my Pogoplug Pro. I just tested it with Archlinux. If somebody wants to check it with Debian rootfs she/he can find a download link in the following message: http://pogoplug.cwsurf.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15&start=0. Nevertheless it is important to do the following steps:

Code: Select all
mkdir /tmp/ce
mount -t ubifs -o ro ubi0:rootfs /tmp/ce
mkdir /etc/Wireless
/bin/cp -rfv /tmp/ce/etc/Wireless/RT2860STA /etc/Wireless
nano /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules # comment out the last line because the MAC address does not fit to your interface

The WIFI driver is already contained in the rootfs and should be loaded automatically.

With ALARM/Debian you could try to check the output of the following commands:

Code: Select all
[root@alarm ~]# modinfo /lib/modules/2.6.31.6_SMP_820/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rt3390sta.ko.gz
