Not starting off to well :-(

Postby wschomburg » Tue Jan 10, 2012 1:10 am

OK So I have read and re-read the forums here and on pogoplugged.com. I have searched for about 3 hrs. I'm not totally up to speed but can usually figure out stuff.

I thought I would install archlinux on a usb drive attached to the pogoplug (Pro)

When I get to the step to 7 I fail to see /dev/sda:

-bash-3.2# /sbin/fdisk /dev/sda
fdisk: cannot open /dev/sda

Running df -h looks like it only finds the internal NAND:

-bash-3.2# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mtdblock2 32.0M 14.8M 17.2M 46% /
none 125.0M 12.0k 125.0M 0% /tmp

THE USB stick is an HP stick, and I have a mac. I have formatted the USB stick as both NTFS and Mac Os Extended Journaled but the pogpplug just does not seem to see it. Does the USB stick need to be formatted previously by linux?

Anyone have any thoughts?

1) thats an kirkwood (E02, "pinky"), not a Pro or other oxnas based system.
2) Odd.

Thanks for the reply Warhead, I re-read the model this time with a flashlight and I stand corrected. It is a E02.

Thanks for clarifying. I will follow the directions for that system and see what happens. But even before trying to install archlinux the pogoplug will not see the usb drive.
