Not connected to network

Postby matjaz » Wed Jan 18, 2012 2:45 pm

I have a problem with my Pogoplug w/ Arch Linux ARM.

When I installed Arch Linux on my Pogoplug, I was doing that at my old house. Now I moved to a different house, with a different network. And my Pogoplug, when I connect everything up and start it, does not get recognized by my router (ergo, I don't see it in my DHCP client list on router control panel). What should I do?

To verify:
- boots, LEDs all ok
- Shows connection lights
- Gets no IP.

Exactly. LEDs are glowing (front and network), but no IP is assigned.

Try editing /etc/rc.local from another linux (plug/vm/livecd) and adding
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
dhcpcd eth0
')

I've seen some timeout issues reported recently.

I must admit I'm entirely new to this, but I followed WarheadsSE's instructions on viewtopic.php?t=2146 to get an external SATA drive to boot my PogoPlug

The issue I have now is that I don't see it show up in my network (i.e. gets no IP).

What I did:
- Tried to install ipkg through ssh while pogoplug was still working
- Rebooted pogoplug
- Did not work anymore
- Followed WarheadsSE's guide to get an SATA drive to boot the pogoplug
- All lights seem to be fine now (front led Green, back network led Green)

However, this is my current status:
- If I connect the SATA drive and boot, lights are as described above, but no network connectivity
- If I don't connect the SATA drive and boot, front LED keeps flashing green, no network connectivity (network LEDs on the back do roughly the same thing as when I connect the SATA drive)

I have added dhcpcd eth0 to /etc/rc.local and I have entered the correct MAC address.
I have not tried changing the symlinks, because I believe I have the PCI bus (PogoPlug Pro, P1)

Can anybody help me get a SATA drive to boot my PogoPlug with network (SSH) connectivity?
Thanks a lot!

By the way: no other (USB,serial) devices are connected to the PP, should that matter

A small little update:

In my previous post I forgot to mention that the orange light next to the ethernet port keeps flashing yellow in either configuration. It's not erratic, but it's not flashing regular intervals either. This is the exact same behaviour for all four results described below.

Also: I have now tried using the nopci kernel and it changes the light behaviour, but no network connectivity. Here are my results:

1) 800Mhz/pci, SATA boot: front green light flashes, then continually ON, no network
2) 800Mhz/nopci, SATA boot: front green light flashes, then continually OFF, no network
3) 700Mhz/nopci, SATA boot: front green light flashes, then continually OFF, no network
4) Boot from NAND: front green light keeps flashing, no network

I'm lost! I'm also a bit of a noob I guess :) If anybody has suggestions for me, please let me know.
Also, I could connect a serial cable (sometime this week) if that would help..

Try grabbing the uImage out of /boot on the rootfs.

Hi WarheadsSE, Thanks for your reply

As I said, I'm a bit of a noob, so I don't understand exactly what you mean.

If I attach the fully prepared drive to a linux install, in the /boot dir are two uImage files: uImage.pci and uImage.nopci
Do you mean I should use one of those instead of the one you supplied and re-run the ./disk_create script?

Thanks again,
Nik
