L2TP server on pogo?

Postby firefoxPL » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:01 pm

Hi, I have a Pogo-P24 running ALARM and I'm wondering about setting up a small L2TP server, so that I could connect to and manage my pogo from outside my home network (and possibly from iPhone/iPad) + maybe I'll manage to route my home network through the vpn to the remote client from time to time. I've checked the Arch wiki and some google results, but there is only a guide on how to setup a client on arch and not much about server setup. Is it even possible on ALARM? Does any of You know of a reliable guides for this task? Any and all help - much appreciated.

Pogo-E02 (v2 Pink) - ALARM on USB (netatalk, avahi, cryptodev-linux, getting ready for L2TP)

You will need to configure iptables for VPN use of your pogo. Currently the iptables doesnt work as well... The kernel that's being ported will support everything I've heard. This info is based on my knowledge on PPTP. I havent seen anything either on L2TP.

What about using OpenVPN? I have that running on my pogo for connecting to my home. Works like a charm.

Isn't that for PPTP? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PPTP_Server

I'll PPTP if I have to but I would prefer L2TP for the Security and speed.

See this page for a comparison between PPTP, L2TP and OpenVPN: http://www.ivpn.net/knowledgebase/62/PPTP-vs-L2TP-vs-OpenVPN.html. OpenVPN is not PPTP.

On the wiki you can find a guide for setting up OpenVPN.

Hi I did't have time to dig in the topic for a long time now. I've had OpenVPN set up on my pogo but L2TP has one fundamental advantage - compatibility with iOS.

Not too long ago support for IOS was added :).

iTunes - OpenVPN

I must say that I haven't tested it yet.
