Pogoplug versions

Postby jca001 » Thu Feb 09, 2012 7:56 pm

The first pogoplug I purchased I got to see what it was all about installing ARCHLinuxarm. It was a V2 (Pink/Gray) model pogo-E02. I liked what is can do and wanted a V3 to play with. So based on the information I found on the home page, Platform, ARMv6, Pogoplug Pro/Video/V3 the general information listed the model numbers as:

pogo-P01 - PRO
pogo-P21 - V3
pogo-P25 - V3
pogo-B01 - Classic
pogo-B02 - Classic
pogo-B03 - Classic
pogo-B04 - Classic

So I googled and found a pogo-P21 for a little more than I paid for the pogo-E02 and ordered it. It arrived today and the first thing I noticed was it was in a box just like my first one. So I compared the information on the boxes and they were both the same model pogo-P21. But the unit inside on the bottom of the foot, the model is pogo-E02. Same as my first one.

In the general information or maybe it is the installation instructions, it warns about loading the wrong version on a pogoplug.

So my question is , the model numbers listed in the general information, is that the model number that is on the box or the foot?

Or did I get ripped off thinking I was buying a V3 and really got a V2?

Just some more information. The box serial number and MAC match the unit in the box. The model number just don't match.

I have googled and went to the pogoplug.com site looking for model number information and can not really find anything about there being a difference of the box model and the actual unit model. I will keep searching, but if anybody has information or pointers about this it would be greatlly appreciated.

Er, yup.

Welcome to inventory offload ;)

Of course, the oxnas installer won't install on anything that isn't a known oxnas.. so..

WarheadsSE:
So what you are saying is there is no way to tell what your are ordering is what you are going to get?
That all these stores are advertizing one thing, but you may get a slightly different model?
Like JnR has an E02 for 24.99 and an B01 for 38.99, if I ordere the B01, I may still get an E02, just because they are trying to get ride of inventory?

Sounds deceptive and totaly wrong to me.

I am going to contact the store I bought mine from about this, but really wanted more information to be able to state my case to them with.

If you don't get satisfaction from the retailer I have an almost-new B02 running Arch which I'd be willing to trade even-up.

Thought I would share. Buy.com just had another clearance on the Pogoplug model P21. Like others when I opened the box the sticker on the unit itself is an E02. Hopefully this is to my advantage, loosinge the dual core CPU I think is a decent trade for double the ram and what seems to be a more compatable processor.
